The Chesterfield County Pee Dee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Assault hosted Denim Day on Friday, April 11. The group traveled throughout the county taking photographs with various participating agencies to support the international cause for Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
Those supporting the effort wore jeans to work that day and had their picture taken with a sign that reads “Jeans for Justice.”
The annual tradition, which hopes to combat negative attitudes against victims of sexual assault, came about after an Italian rape case claimed the victim’s tight jeans were to blame for her assault.
Local participating agencies included the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office, Chesterfield Police Department, Clerk of Court Office, Department of Social Services, Pageland Town Hall, Pageland Police Department, Northeastern Technical College, Cheraw Police Department, Cheraw Town Hall, McBee Police Department and Marmac of McBee.
