Town Council election will see re-match
by Karen Kissiah Staff Writer
One of the three political races for a seat on Cheraw Town Council this fall will be a re-match between candidates in District 4. With just two votes separating the winner from the loser in 2009, all candidates are hoping people will realize how important each vote is to the local democratic process.
This will be the third attempt for J.J. Wallace, of 603 Church Street, to capture the title of councilman for District 4 against incumbent Jacqueline Ellerbe-Shannon. “I lost by two votes in the last election,” said Wallace. “But with those percentages, I obviously have a lot of support in the community.”
According to Ernestine Shray of the Chesterfield County Voter’s Registration Office, the official count in that race in Cheraw’s District 4, four years ago, was 53 to 51.
Cheraw’s District 2 will see a contest between Roberto E. Broadie and incumbent Billy Wallace Jr.
Running unopposed in District 6 is Reid McBride.
The possibility of having a write-in candidate for each of the three open offices exists until Sept. 13, according to Cheraw Town Clerk Tina Ellis.
The election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013.
