Curtain rises next Thursday

The curtain rises for the On Stage production of “$38,000 for a Friendly Face,” by Kristin Sheperd, next Thursday, Sept. 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the Theatre on the Green, off Market Street in downtown Cheraw. Adult tickets are $8 and are available at the door, or in advance through the Cheraw Arts Commission.
The play threads together several story lines that explore the mysteries of love, life, and death. But each is delivered with a side of humor, especially from the ladies of the Last Supper Committee.
Ester, a member of the Last Supper Committee, is played by Emily Chartier. She is preoccupied with the success her neighbor’s funeral home business, and is constantly trying to find ways to save money on the refreshments for the services. Marge, Amy Smith’s character, is tired of the same old funeral food. She’s grown to hate “tiny sandwiches.” And there’s Donna Johnson’s character, who just loves a good funeral.
Some of the dialogue is quite frank and there is some profanity. This play is best suited for adult audiences.
The cast also includes Delton Powers, as Matt the funeral director; Melissa Mallet, one of the Bain sisters; Trish Henderson, the other Bain sister; and Averyona Gainey as Alison.
This play is the second of the year directed by Mike Hunter and produced by Sherri Leviner. Karen Kissiah is responsible for the set design.
Performances Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27 and 28, also begin at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday performance, Sept. 29, will begin at 3 p.m.
