The Cheraw Arts Commission presents the artwork of Suzy Spencer at the Mary G. Burr Gallery of the Cheraw Community Center during the month of May.

The public is invited to meet the artist during an opening reception at the gallery from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Spencer said her interest in art was evident at an early age, while creating artwork of her brother. As an adult, Spencer shared her love of art with her students, having worked as a special needs educator.

A newcomer to the area, Spencer moved to Cheraw in September 2013, from Shepardstown, West Virginia, where she was an active member of the “Friday Painters.”

The exhibit will feature some of the artist’s early works that include portraits, drawings, batiks and more.

“Recently, Spencer has been busy creating watercolor paintings that have been inspired by the beauty of local flora in Cheraw,” said Lindsay Bennett, executive director of the Cheraw Arts Commission.

The Burr Gallery hours are 8:30 am until 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.

For information contact the Cheraw Arts Commission at 843-537-8420 extension 12.
