By Karen Kissiah
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday, Oct. 23, at the J.P. Stevens and Co., Inc., Delta No. 3 Plant, marking the beginning of construction for a new warehouse. The facility will be used for finished goods storage and house production equipment. Construction is expected to be completed in August of 1981. Employees with more than 25 years of service with the company participated in the groundbreaking, with those having 30 years or more holding the shovels. Holding shovels are: left to right, Charles Ratliff, Rufus Lindsay, Laylon Hurst, George Nethercutt, Doris Gaddy, Chalmers Huey, Frank Thomas and Gerald Smith. This was published Nov. 6, 1980, in the Cheraw Chronicle.
