Cheraw’s downtown streetscape program began in September 1998 as workers uprooted brick sidewalk inlays to install new lampposts. The face-lift of the 100 block of Market Street was scheduled for completion by Nov. 1, according to contractors Regenbogen and Associates. Once finished, downtown Cheraw was to have lower lighting to give a more personal effect, twice as many specimen and ornamental trees and three crosswalks. It also would more handicapped-accessible and have a resurfaced street. This photo was published Sept. 17, 1998 in The Cheraw Chronicle.
