The election, or re-election, of two seats on Cheraw Town Council will be decided Tuesday, Nov. 5, in Districts 2 and 4. The polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
In District 2, incumbent Billy Wallace Jr., is running for his second four-year term on council. He is being challenged by Roberto E. Broadie.
In District 4, the political rivalry between J.J. Wallace and incumbent Jacqueline Ellerbe-Shannon has a 12-year history. This makes the third time Wallace has challenged her seat.
In 2009, Ellerbe-Shannon defeated Wallace by just two votes.
Because there was no opposition in District 6, no election was necessary. Reid McBride has already been sworn into that position.
Terms for the town’s six council seats are staggered, so that it will be two years before the seats in Districts 1, 3 and 5 are up for re-election. Cheraw Mayor Andy Ingram was elected in 2012. That is a four year term as well.
