There may have been a goblin or two still howling from the darkness of Halloween when the public works crew from the town of Cheraw began putting up Christmas lights Nov. 1.
According to Public Works Director Donna Byrd they have to start early.
“It takes a month to get them all up, so they can stay up for a month,” said Byrd.
In recent years Cheraw has hosted its annual Christmas parade closer to Thanksgiving. This year the parade is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16.
Having the parade at night will be a new experience for Cheraw’s parade. Gail Paul, director for the parade, said she hopes people will remember to incorporate lights on their homemade floats. Prizes totaling more $250 will be awarded in the float competition this year.
“While professional floats will continue to be welcomed, churches, schools, local businesses, organizations and civic groups are urged to enter a homemade float,” said Paul.
Contact Paul at 843-498-7138 for additional details or to register your parade entry.
The Chesterfield County Christmas Parade is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, on Main Street in Chesterfield.
