The House on the Hill Project at Cheraw State Park has gotten a boost for the new year, with a $4,000 donation from Lynches River Electric Cooperative.

“The co-op is community minded and likes to give back to the coumunities it serves,” said John Burr, vice president of corporate services.

“We are very appreciative of this generous donation,” said Cheraw Mayor Andy Ingram.

Ingram, who is helping lead the fundraising campaign for renovations to the 80-year-old structure, took the opportunity to remind others that more support is necessary.

The total cost is estimated at $250,000. The project will update the kitchen facilities, add restrooms and a deck across the lake side of the building. Once construction begins, it may take as long as two years to complete, said Ingram.

“Like the House on the Hill,” said Burr, “Lynches River also got its start in the 1930s. Their board of directors saw this as a worthy project and were enthusiastic about showing their support.”

According to Burr, the $4,000 contribution includes a $2,000 check from Lynches River and a matching check from the co-op’s financial vendor, CoBank.

Ingram said all donations will be greatly appreciated and are tax-deductible. Checks should be made payable to “The House on the Hill — BPA” and mailed to: Cheraw State Park, 100 State Park Road, Cheraw, SC 29520. Online payments may be made by visiting: www.southcarolinaparks.com/cheraw/introduction.aspx and clicking on the links which read: “Click here to make a donation The House on the Hill.”
