The Cheraw Recreation and Leisure Services Department will be hosting quite a few youth basketball games this weekend, as eight teams will come to town for the Eastern District 12 and Under, Division 2, Basketball Tournament Saturday, March 8, at the Cheraw Community Center.
The full bracket will consist of twelve teams, but four sub-district games will narrow the field down to eight teams for the weekend. The games will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the championship tilt scheduled for around 7:30 p.m.
The 10 a.m. game will feature Cheraw against Dillon, while the Pamplico-Aynor winner will battle the Lake View - Latta winner at 11:30 a.m.
The 1 p.m. game will feature the Mullins-Marion winner against the Georgetown Northwest-Crabtree survivor, while Andrews will challenge Lake City in the last of the quarterfinal games at 2:30 p.m.
The two semifinal games will be played at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., with the championship game slated for 7:30 p.m.
The winner of this event will advance to the State Tournament Saturday, March 15, in Barnwell.
Members of the host Cheraw team include Camron Bowen, Trenton Turnage, Tyi’Queaz Strong, Dontrell Ratliff, Keilen Watson, Jalen Coit, Anthony Waymyers, Jamal Smith, Shikem Lindsey, Davion Hancock, Ashanti Marshall, and Xavier McIver. Coaches for this all-star squad are Garrett White, Dick Blinkhorn and Reggie Coit.
Admission for the games will be $3 for adults, and $2 for students. Children under the age of 6 will be admitted
All of these games will be played at the Cheraw Community Center, which is located at 200 Powe St.
