After 34 years as a high school history teacher at Cheraw High School, Gail Ingram plans to retire June 6. And on June 10, she will be on the ballot as a Democratic candidate for Probate Judge.

“One door is closing for me and I hope another door will open to continue serving the citizens of Chesterfield County,” said Ingram. “While I meet the requirements to be a Probate Judge, I feel that I am strongly qualified to carry out all of the functions of this position. I am public-service oriented, compassionate and patient. Probate is one area of the law where compassion and patience can make a difference.”

“I am also qualified to read, research, and understand the law in the areas of probate, guardianships, conservatorships and commitments. My academic, personal and professional records demonstrate that I have the background and temperament to do this job and to do it well. The volume of cases is growing and the issues facing a Probate Judge are becoming increasingly complex. I have the organizational and the technological skills to work with the probate court in the 21st century. I will strive to take care of all of the citizens of Chesterfield County who come to the probate court and to meet their needs. I pledge to continue the excellent customer service that the Chesterfield County Probate Court provides.”

Ingram earned her BA and MAT degrees in history at the University of South Carolina. She earned her 30 hours above the master’s degree and her National Board Certification.

Ingram has won a multitude of honors for her teaching, including two national and several state awards, and three Fulbright Fellowships. She was the District Teacher of the Year in 1996. The SC House of Representatives passed a concurrent resolution honoring Ingram and she received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Honors College at USC.

Ingram has served as a deacon and an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Cheraw where she heads the personnel committee. Since 1987, she has served on the Chesterfield County Library Board and she is the chairperson.
