Northeastern Technical College recognized high achieving students and outstanding contributors to technical education during the college’s annual honors program held April 24.
During the ceremony, the college recognized students who made President’s List during the 2013 spring, summer and fall semesters. Students were also honored for outstanding academic achievement in arts and sciences, computer technology, technology, and business degree pathways.
NETC’s Outstanding Contributor to Technical Education Award recipients, were also announced during the ceremony. This year the award was presented to four local industries for their dedication to technical education and support of the industry training center currently being built in Marlboro County. Flakeboard, SoPakCo, Mohawk Industries and Domtar Paper were instrumental in a capital campaign in 2013 that raised more than $241,000 for the industry training center.
“We appreciate the industries that have contributed to make this project happen in Marlboro county,” said Dr. Ron Bartley, college president. “Because of their outstanding work and contributions, we have about two-thirds of the funding required to complete phase one of the renovation.”
The NETC Student Government Association presents the Outstanding Contributor to Technical Education Award, annually to an individual, business or organization that has made unique and valuable, contributions to the college. Since 1982, past recipients have included industries, healthcare providers, community supporters, and NETC staff and faculty members.
Other honorees during the April 24 ceremony were students inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of community and technical colleges; nominees to the SC All State Academic Team; officers and senators serving in the college’s Student Government Association, and recognition of 2013-14 Who’s Who in American Junior Colleges students.
