The Upper Pee Dee YMCA, which serves Chesterfield, Hartsville and Darlington, has received 36 new basketballs from the National Basketball Association league’s global community outreach program NBA Cares, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Spalding.

The donation provides new basketballs to youths who participate in the YMCA’s summer basketball camps. The summer basketball camp program encourages children to be physically active, develop skills and learn sportsmanship.

“The Upper Pee Dee YMCA is thrilled to have been selected to receive this generous donation from NBA Cares and its partners,” said CEO Shawn Patch of the Upper Pee Dee YMCA. “Getting kids interested in sports helps them to stay healthy and active throughout their lives.”

This summer, all three branches of the Upper Pee Dee YMCA are offering youth basketball camps. These camps, led by trained coaches, will teach the fundamentals of basketball using drills and widely respected coaching techniques.

The NBA Cares program addresses social issues such as education, youth and family development and health and wellness. The NBA and its teams support a range of programs, partners and initiatives that strive to positively affect children and families worldwide.
