Chesterfield County residents will have an opportunity to cook and serve down-home barbecue for the tasting — and prize money — this fall during the Chesterfield County Q-Cup Championship at Cheraw State Park Oct. 3-4.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the McArn Food Bank of Cheraw, which serves all of Chesterfield County.
Sanctioned by the S.C. Barbecue Association, the event will host 20 teams, consisting of no more than four members each, that will cook chicken wings on Friday night and barbecue on Saturday. The entry fee is $200 per team, which includes the chicken and pork to be cooked.
“It should be great fun, with plenty of great food, and opportunities to show off your cooking skills,” said Donna Johnson, who is organizing the event. “And, it’s for a great cause.”
The tastings each night will be complimented with live music by the waterfront at Cheraw State Park. The Dog House Kings, a local band led by Chris Houser, is scheduled to play Friday, Oct. 3.
Although the event is part of the S.C. Barbecue Association’s year-long point system championship, local participants are eligible for prize money without having to join the association. More information about the championship is available at www.scbarbecue.com.
There will be 30 official judges from the S.C. Barbecue Association on hand to determine the winner.
Anyone interested in forming a team can contact Johnson at 843-287-1748 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
