The Cheraw Recreation and Leisure Services Department will kick off the Independence Day holiday with a downtown children’s parade at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 3.
The parade begins in the parking lot on Front Street behind Flemming Funeral Home and will proceed down Market Street to Town Hall. This is a new start location from previous years for the children’s parade.
The Civil Air Patrol’s Florence Composite Squadron will also be a part of this year’s festivities. All children are welcome to ride their bikes, trikes or wagons in the parade. Organizers are not admitting motorized vehicles.
Prizes will be awarded for the most patriotic costume and best decorated bike, trike or wagon. Free refreshments will be served. Organizers also expect an appearance from John Quincy Adams.
The festivities continue on Thursday night with a family fun celebration at the Cheraw High School football stadium from 6 to 10:30 p.m. The stage will host the oldies, beach, top 40 and funky sounds of “North Tower,” playing from 7-10 p.m.
In addition to musical entertainment, there will be games provided by TC’s Amusements — bungee trampoline, giant slide, bounce house, TC’s Choppers and more. Ticket purchase required for the rides and games. All games will start at 6 and end at 9:45 p.m.
A variety of concessions will be available for purchase — pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, Italian Ice, funnel cakes, popcorn, drinks and more. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs. Admission is free and small fees will be charged for games and concessions.
For the grand finale, East Coast Pyrotechnics will put on a fireworks show starting around 9:45. For more information, contact the Cheraw recreation office at 843-537-8420.
