Cheraw Family Dollar robbed at gunpoint

Berger CHERAW – The Cheraw Police Department in conjunction with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office and several other law enforcement agencies are working together to capture an armed suspect who robbed the Cheraw Family Dollar around 9:41 a.m. on Wednesday, June 30. Cheraw Police Department officers responded to a dispatched call around 9:44, immediately after the crime occurred. “The call came in around 9:44 a.m. that the store had been robbed,” said Cheraw Police Department Dispatcher, Jack Henderson. Officers said that the suspect ran out the back door of the Family Dollar shortly after the robbery, but no one was injured. Cheraw Police Chief, Jay Brooks, Det. Eric Taylor, and other law enforcement, set up perimeters surrounding the area. “We are thankful no one was hurt during the robbery, but we have detectives scattered to the wind, still searching for the suspect. We will continue to search for the suspect until he is captured. We also have several other law enforcement agencies in both, North and South Carolina, assisting us in the case,” stressed Brooks. The suspect is described as a black male, 5’9 to 6’0 ft. and 150 to 170 lbs. and is in his late 30’s to 40 years old. At the time the incident occurred, he was wearing a yellow T-shirt with a white stripe, black pants and a baseball cap. Brooks added that the suspect was also driving a mid-to-late 1990 model black 4-door BMW 500 series vehicle. In addition, about 3:30 p.m. Brooks and the Cheraw Police Department sent out an alert for the suspect, who was still at large as of 5 p.m. Wednesday evening. The case is still under investigation.
