At first, the goal seemed a little high, but faith in the folks of Chesterfield County made us believe that $5,000 was an attainable goal for a first-year fund-raiser.
The Children's Christmas Fund did not reach its goal, but it more than served its purpose.
Thanks to the generosity of many fine folks, the Children's Christmas Fund completed its campaign this year by raising $3,426, all of which will go to purchase gifts for needy children in the local community.
During the final week of the fund-raising effort, contributions dropped of at The Cheraw Chronicle & The Chesterfield Advertiser more than doubled. A total of $516 in donations were made by caring individuals.
The largest portion of the fund was made through the AMVETS Post 177 BBQ/Chicken Plate Sale on Saturday. A total of $2,500 was raised through the plate sale.
According to Post 177 officials, a total of 166 chicken plates and more than 100 pounds of BBQ was sold. The plate sale was scheduled to end at 6 p.m., but by 3:30 p.m. the plates were sold out.
To all those who contributed, whether through a donations or a the purchase of a ticket to the plate sale, AMVETS Post 177 and The Cheraw Chronicle & The Chesterfield Advertiser offer heartfelt thank you for your support of a very worthy cause.
