The Lakeside Music Room of Cheraw State Park will present Jonathan Byrd in concert Friday night at 7:15 p.m. This will be the third in a summer series of free concerts offered to the public, compliments of Cheraw State Park, Pee Dee Outfitters and Artsville.

The Midnight Rooster, in Hartsville, will prepare the food and beverages that will be available for purchase this time. Food will be served from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the boat-dock shelter where the concert will be held. The performance will end at 9 p.m.

Byrd is credited for his powerful lyrics as a songwriter in reviews from North Carolina, his native state, to Boston, Chicago and beyond.

The Boston Globe reported, “This rootsy North Carolinian may be the most buzzed about new songwriter in folkdom.”

According to the Chicago Tribune, Byrd is “one of the top 50 songwriters of the last 50 years.”

His newest recording, “Cackalack,” made the No. 1 spot on the Roots Music Report folk radio chart. His music is available for listening at myspace.com, and other sites on the on the web.

This concert and one more, Aug. 31, are the result of efforts by the organizers and community support. A fund-raising campaign completed last spring paid for the presentation of the entire series.
