The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Chesterfield County will hold its annual cancer walk on May 3 and May 4, 2013, at Chesterfield High School Football Stadium.

This is a time when Chesterfield County comes together to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those who have lost the battle, and fight for a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

The overnight event, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., symbolizes the journey a cancer patient goes through during treatment, and organizers ask that each team has at least one member walking the track at all times. It all starts with an opening ceremony, followed by the survivor’s lap, the caregiver’s lap, then everyone else joins in. At nightfall, all the field lights are turned off and the track is illuminated by hundreds of candle-lit Luminaria bags in honor, or in memory, of loved ones.

The entire county is welcome to participate in this event by forming a team and raising funds, by becoming a sponsor, by sharing your talent at the event, or by volunteering your services.

For more information, contact Event Chair Kathy Treadaway at 843-921-8502, or American Cancer Society’s Staff Partner Chinel Boateng at 843-245-8538 or go to www.relayforlife.org/chesterfieldsc.
