And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house forever, but the son abideth forever. If the son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Being set free
What a message this scripture portrays to the world! Being free from sin through Christ Jesus is the best thing that could ever happen in a person’s life. It is the best thing in my own life today and I feel that I am truly blessed. Note that I did not write perfect, because none of us are perfect, except God. But, the Apostle John tells us that we can be made free of sin, and be free indeed. John, the Apostle wrote the Book of John probably in Ephesus between A.D. 85 and 96. Although the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke have different viewpoints, they are quite similar in content and are called the ‘Synoptic Gospels.” The Gospel of John is called the “Supplemental Gospel” because it stands uniquely in a class by itself. It’s style, structure, use of personal interviews, lack of parables, and spiritual explanations of events make it different than the other three Gospels.
John and his brother James, follow John the Baptist until Jesus calls them to follow Him. Jesus refers to John and James as ‘Sons of Thunder,” but later John is referred to as the disciple “whom Jesus loved.” John, along with Peter and James, becomes especially close to Jesus. Only Jesus and John are with Christ at the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-8), and at Gethsemane (Mark 14:32-41). John wrote this book for a special purpose. It is for us to know that we can believe on Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. By believing on Him, we can have eternal life through His name (John 20:31).
When we are saved through the blood that Jesus shed on Calvary for the sins of the world, we are then set free from our own sins and wrong. This passage of scripture describes what it is like to be free from sin and that the “truth” will set us free. What is the truth, or better yet, who is the truth? Jesus is the truth. What a comfort to know that we can be free from sin just by asking from the heart. If you have burdens in your life and need to be set free, ask Jesus Christ into your heart and believe that He is able to make your life new again. He will give you a clean record, a second chance, and eternal life.
Jesus was the beginning of miracles and still remains the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
