The Braves of Cheraw High School will hit the field with the first official game of the season on home turf Friday, Aug. 17. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

The Cheraw High School stadium was host to a local Jamboree last Saturday evening. The event feature scrimmages between several teams in the surrounding community.

The first three scrimmages were Timmonsville vs. Central Eagles; McBee Panthers vs. South Stanley; and Chesterfield Rams vs. Marion. The final scrimmage was between the stadium hosts, the Cheraw Braves, and the Anson Bearcats.

Cheraw managed to pull a 7-0 win over Anson in the first scrimmage of the season. “Our offense did not perform as well as we would have liked,” said Cheraw High Coach Johnny White. “We moved the ball pretty well until we got down to the 20 yard line and then we made some mistakes.”

“Our defense played very well,” White said. “Anytime the defense causes turnovers, as they did last week, it’s a good thing.”

Overall, White said the team has a few things to work on, but he looks forward to a “good season.”

The final scores from the Jamboree were:

Timmonsville vs. Central 2-21; McBee vs. Stanley 0-14; Chesterfield vs. Marion 21 - 14; Cheraw vs. Anson 7-0.
