BENNETTSVILLE - The Marlboro County Sheriff's Office apprehended and arrested two suspects in connection with a string of at least 20 burglaries throughout various parts of the Carolinas. According to reports, Dewayne Everett Quick, 31, 4179 Red Bud Road, McColl, S.C. and Kimberly Dawn Brigman, 38, 16246 Old Wire Road, Laurinburg, N.C., were held in the Marlboro Detention Center as of last Friday. Bond for the two suspects will be set this week in Magistrate Court during general sessions. According to reports and Lt. Jamie Seales of the Marlboro County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a burglary on Hwy. 83 on Oct.13, outside of Clio, S.C. While deputies were at the scene, a call was dispatched, which resulted to be a burglary in progress right down the road from where the deputies were. Upon arrival, MCSO officers spotted Brigman, who was then taken into custody. The second suspect, Quick, fled the scene to a field located behind the residence on the property. The MCSO tracking team and bloodhound responded immediately in the search for Quick. "The Marlboro County Sheriff's Office assisted McColl Police Department with the search of the perimeter along with the Bennettsville Police Department Sort Team. Scotland County Sheriff's Office also had their units assisting with the search," said Seales. Seales added that after a brief search, which only lasted about ten minutes, the suspect was captured without incident. The investigation then turned to the suspects allegedly becoming persons of interest in several more burglaries that had recently occurred in Marlboro County in the same area on Hwy 8. "There are other co-defendants that will be arrested as the investigation proceeds. Some of the victims have not reported the crimes and may not even know that they are victims. However, we will be contacting them soon to file incident reports," said Seales. He added that it was also determined that both, Brigman and Quick, will also be charged in Dillon County pertaining to another recent burglary that occurred there as well. "The investigation also revealed that the Scotland County Sheriff's Office may be talking with Quick about other related burglaries in their county. Overall, a variety of items have been stolen during this crime spree that dates back over a one-year period. Some of the items include, money, safes, jewelry, coins, tools, guns and gas. The suspects would always look for gas cans or vehicles with gas, to keep them riding around to scout more areas to burglarize," Seales said. The report stated that the suspects were captured on Oct. 13 while driving a white Honda Passport with a stolen tag. "The investigation continued successfully for the Marlboro County and McColl Police Departments. It was also determined that Quick has been involved in thirteen burglaries in Marlboro County, which included residences, businesses, vehicles and storage buildings," Seales said. Seales added that Brigman would also be charged in a great number of these burglaries. The MCSO made a second determination that Quick and other co-defendants were also allegedly involved in burglaries in McColl, S.C., which consisted of seven businesses and one residence. "I am asking, that anybody who has bought any items or received anything from Quick or Brigman, to please come forward to the Marlboro County Sheriff's Office or the McColl Police Department immediately.

This investigation will turn into another phase now, as we are trying to recover and return as much of the merchandise to the victims as possible. We have recovered some items recently, however, the investigation shows that these crimes were motivated by drug problems that the suspects have. This has been and will continue to be a joint investigation between the Marlboro County Sheriff's Office and the McColl Police Department," said Seales. Marlboro County Sheriff Fred Knight praised the efforts of the MCSO by adding, "I would like to commend Sgt. Terry Lemon's shift on the work they did. Deputy Ray Hall and Jeremy Steen did a great job on securing the scene and capturing one of the suspects. Their quick response time made the difference in this case. I also want to thank all of the agencies that assisted and once again, our bloodhound program is paying dividends in suppressing criminal activity. These suspects will be charged with a variety of charges in over 20 counts of burglary in the first, second and third degrees and larceny and malicious damage to property." If anyone has any further information regarding this case, please contact the Marlboro County Sheriff's Office at 843-479-5605 or the McColl Police Department at 843-523-5223.
