The S.C. Barbeque Association will hold a class to train new barbecue judges Saturday, July 14, in Columbia. The day-long seminar is designed to start a person on the path to becoming a full-fledged Certified Barbeque Judge and will last from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The seminar will be held in the recreation room at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1715 Bull St., Columbia.

To register, contact Lake High, President of the SCBA, at Lhigh1@sc.rr.com or 803-782-9595. The $45 fee includes a BBQ lunch, catered by an award winning barbeque team, and membership in the association. You can pay at the door if prior arrangements have been made. Family memberships are available at only $55.

High said the SCBA, which has held training seminars in Columbia, Charleston, Greenville, Florence, Myrtle Beach and Beaufort, is in search of people in South Carolina who want to become Certified Barbeque judges. Anyone who would like to become a certified barbeque judge should contact Lake High and he will send information on how to join the Association, or by going to www.scbarbeque.com and clicking on the “Join Us” button.

The SCBA has trained and certified more than 600 barbeque judges in South Carolina. A judge becomes certified after they attend this all-day seminar and then study under a Master Judge at four barbeque cook-offs.
