Chesterfield Town Council members are getting closer to reaching goals that will enable them to truly “do something” about unsightly vacant lots and dilapidated structures in town.
Chesterfield Town Administrator David Huntley told council members last Thursday evening he had spoken with the ladies at the courthouse about getting “clean up costs” added to tax payers’ bills. Their answer: if it’s going to be in place for next year’s tax bills, things would have to be in place by June 2013.
The biggest question at the previous meeting was how soon the town would have to pay for the services. According to Huntley, the county would be able to bill the Town of Chesterfield for their services so that the money could come out of next year’s budget.
The estimated cost, giving the town the right to issue fines, or send out bills for the cost of clean up to property owners, is $4,000.
Huntley said Chesterfield Chief of Police Eric Hewitt has been working on defining exactly what those offenses and fines will include.
