It’s not time to set up the table and chairs just yet, but the Taste of the Carolinas is just around the corner. It’s planned for the last weekend of September.
Tables and chairs for the event were among the first items of business for Chesterfield Town Council on Aug. 9. Regardless of how Team Chesterfield divvies up the responsibilities for presenting the Taste event, it was unanimously decided by Town Council to allow the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce to bank on using the tables and chairs that belong to the town. According to Councilman Billy H. Cassidy, this will save the chamber approximately $2,000.
Last year the Taste of the Carolinas was set up on the grounds of the old Courthouse on Main Street in Chesterfield. This year it will be held at the home of Gilbert King.
In other business, council agreed to lease a small portion of property by the water tank at the corner of Campbell and Hersey for a community garden spot. Councilwoman Runette E. Wilson made three appointments to the Beautification Committee. They are Thelma Rivers, Bertha Henderson and Timothy Hillian.
Chesterfield Mayor John H. Douglas requested more time to deal with details surrounding preparations for a surplus property sale, which was granted. The issue will be tabled until the next council meeting. However, council did agree that sales, up to $2,500, will go to the department from which property is sold. Past that mark, the town will take 50 percent toward the overall budget.
