Clara Davis, 75, of Cheraw, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003.

A funeral service was held at noon Saturday, Dec. 12 from Mt. Rona Baptist Church. Burial followed in Montrose Cemetery.

Born in Cheraw, Mrs. Davis was a daughter of the late Edmond and Nellie Harrison Davis and the wife of the late John Davis Sr. During her early 20's she moved to New York, then to Stamford Conn., making that her home for more than 50 years. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and served as an usher until her death. Mrs. Davis was employed with White Fashion Laundry, held various domestic positions and worked at the Dress Barn Inc. in Stamford.

Surviving are four children, Herman Lee Davis of Rockingham, N.C., John (Helen) Davis Jr. of Stamford, Dorothy D. Wright (Matthew) Robinson of Cheraw, and Akisha Cassermere of Norwalk, Conn.; five grandchildren, Gerald E. Wright, Nicole (Timothy) Johnson, Yolanda M. Wright, John S. Davis III and Whykeeva R. Davis; two great-grandchildren, Tierra Johnson, Angela Johnson; six step-grandchildren; two brothers, Elbert (Ida) Davis of Cheraw, Jack (Bessie) Buchanan of Chesterfield; four sisters, Jessie Mae Simmons, Aletha Davis and Gladys Davis McCandice all of Stamford, and Janie Buchanan of Chesterfield; an aunt, Rosa Witherspoon of Cheraw; and a number of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Davis and Frank Davis, and a sister, Ruth Davis Harris.

Arrangements were entrusted to Grooms Funeral Home.
