CHERAW- Mrs. Hazel A. Smith, 68, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 at her home.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Feb. 4 at Lower Macedonia Baptist Church. Burial services were held at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Smith was born February 19, 1941 in Hartsville, S.C. to a daughter of the late Johnny N. Griggs and Almena G. Griggs. She was a member of Lower Macedonia Baptist Church, and a retired employee of Bo-Buck Mill. Hazel was married to the late James W. Smith, Sr. and was also preceded in death by her brother, Fred “Albert” Griggs.

Surviving is a son, James W. Smith, Jr. (Patty) of Bennettsville; three daughters, Margaret A. Griggs (Bobby Joe) of Cheraw; Geraldine Butler (Keith) of Chesterfield, and Claudia Stafford (Jerry) of Chesterfield; six sisters, Betty Brown of Patrick, Helen Griggs of Chesterfield, , Johnny Carol Kelly of Darlington, Lois Vaughn and Marie Semiklose both of Hartsville and Vivian Byrd of California. Nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
