Marshall D. Myers of Cheraw recently earned an Most Valuable Player (MVP) award through the CP3 All Stars AAU organization.
The award came with opportunity of a lifetime for the young 9-year-old basketball player, according to the Cp3 organization. Myers was given the opportunity to personally train with 5 time NBA All-Star, 4 time NBA Steals Leader, Los Angels Clippers‘ Point Guard, Chris Paul.
This opportunity was made possible through a verbal commitment requested by executives of the CP3 All Stars AAU organization. The organization assists in student athletes’ academic progress by offering SAT and ACT tutorial sessions. This just one of the services that has been instrumental in helping CP3 alumni’s qualify to play at the next level.
The CP3 All Stars are managed by Paul’s parents and sponsored by Chris Paul, Nike, Powerade and Jordan Brand.
A request for early commitment means that as soon as Myers becomes of middle school age, he would be first recruited to join the 2015 CP3 All Stars National AAU team.
If Myers continues his commitment and hard work and training, this rare opportunity will afford him a clear pathway to become a top division 1 college basketball recruit, said the organization.
Myers attended the CP3 basketball camp in Winston-Salem, N.C., where campers traveled from across the world as far as Texas, California, and Denmark, Europe. Myers was awarded MVP of the 8 to 9-year-old league after leading his team to winning the league championship.
Myers was reported to have had a showcase performance along with astonishing numbers that caught the eyes and interest of the NBA All Star and his staff. In 12 games, Myers averaged 18 points, 11 assist, 5.2 steals and 7 rebounds per game. He also bought home awards for shooting completion.
“He is unbelievable and plays like a grown man, and he somehow finds ways to share the ball while scoring big numbers,” Paul said of Myers.
The coaching staff gave Myers the highest grading marks for his fundamental skills set in left and right hand ball handling, perimeter and inside moves, individual and team defense, offensive and defensive rebounding, outstanding leadership and extremely high basketball IQ.
Paul encouraged Myers to continue training and working hard. He said he had no doubt Myers will meet his goal and dream of playing in the NBA.
