Lion Brenda Nettles was named the Society Hill Lion of the Year for 2011-2012 in a ceremony held June 21 in Society Hill.
The award is given annually to the member who best exemplifies “outstanding service, loyalty and devotion to Lionism.” Making the presentation was Lion President Lola Tice.
Nettles has served the Lions Club for many years as secretary and helped raise money to aid needy citizens in obtaining eye exams and glasses and other worthwhile community projects. Nettles also assisted in forming a Lions Club in adjoining Marlboro County.
Members of the Society Hill Lions Club referred to Nettles as “an asset to our Lions Club and to our community.”
