Although dance classes for the young and old have been happening in Cheraw for quite a while, there is in new dance studio in town. Nikki Dennis Brantley has opened The Dance Studio at 110 Duvall St., offering a variety of classes for the young and old.

Brantley celebrated her new business with a grand opening ceremony last Saturday morning. Phil Powell, executive director of the Greater Cheraw Chamber of Commerce, welcomed her to the downtown business community.

Brantley, recently married to Long Middle School Principal Matt Brantley, has been dancing since she was 2 years old. Growing up in Sumter, S.C., she studied with the Freed School of Dance and performed with the Sumter Civic Dance Company. She is currently working on completing her degree in Dance Education at Coker College.

Her website, at www.nbdancestudio.com, gives a complete list of the various styles of dancing she will offer, along with adult fitness classes in Zumba.

“I am trying to raise committed, dedicated, confident young dancers,” said Brantley, “who will be educated in the art form of dance.”

Brantley has already scheduled a spring recital for May 2013. The theme will be “The Broadway and the Ballet.” All recital classes and competitive students will perform in the recital.

Classes will be taught in jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, ballroom, Carolina Shag and choreography. Brantley also offers couples planning a wedding an opportunity to have their favorite songs choreographed specifically for them.

For more information, call 843-517-0751 or email her at nikki@nbdancestudio.com.

Spring Recital is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2013. There are two mandatory dress rehearsals for all performing students on Thursday, May 16, 2013 and Friday, May 17, 2013.
