CHESTERFIELD --- The Chesterfield Rams track program opened the season at home on Mar. 10 with dominant performances against their competition. Chesterfield hosted McBee and South Pointe Christian School.
Junior Cameron Griggs got the Rams off to a winning start with his two victories in the shot put and discus throw. Griggs’ won the discus event with a throw of 167 feet, three inches.
Griggs’, who won the 3A state championship in the discus throw last year, has emerged as the favorite in Class A competition. Griggs won the shot put even with a heave of 53 feet, five inches.
Dustin Parks won the 110 meter hurdles in impressive fashion, while the boys 4 x 100 meter and 4 x 800 meter teams picked up wins. Carmello Dixon won the 800-meter run.
For the girls’ team, Kiki Gibson won the shot put event with a throw of 32 feet, 10 inches.
Kayla Frazier won the discus throw with a career best throw of 98 feet, six inches.
Bonnie Johnson won the 1,600 meter run and teammate Victoria Purdue finished second. Purdue won the 400-meter race and Kennel Chappell finished second.
