Citizens of Chesterfield County met at the courthouse on Monday to remember its fallen heroes with services and words of prayer.

Fronds were laid at the memorial monument signifying those who have paid the supreme sacrifice for their country. Veterans, family, and friends lay fronds at the foot of the memorial monument for each name called out by county post commanders.

Phillip McLaurin hosted the ceremony and laid a wreath at the memorial. The Rev. Julian Cato led the invocation and closing prayer. The Rev. Jonathan Cox was guest speaker.

Pam Mills recognized Theresa Hicks as Gold Star Mother. Hicks' son, Jason, died in action during a helicopter crash in Afghanistan last year. Hicks and Kelly Keith joined those names engraved on the memorial as killed in action.
