The South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities (SCGSAH) ranks 3rd in the state for 2012 SAT scores.

“Since the primary admission criteria for our school is artistic talent, we are honored to be recognized for academic excellence along with two schools that have very high academic admission standards,” said Bruce Halverson, President of SCGSAH.

SCGSAH’s composite score was 1711, 280 points above the South Carolina average of 1431. SCGSAH’s students scored increased by 19 points from 2011 and 2012. Artistic potential, not high grades or test scores are required for admission to SCGSAH. Yet the school consistently ranks in SC’s top three public high schools for SAT scores.

SCGSAH ranks behind The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Math in Hartsville and the Academic Magnet High School in Charleston.

The South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities is a public residential high school located in Greenville, South Carolina, providing a unique arts and academic education to the state’s emerging artists. Young artists, usually in 11th or 12th grade, study creative writing, dance, drama, music, or visual arts during the academic year and rising 9th and 10th grade students attend summer programs in these areas, with summer dance programs open to rising 7th through 12th grade students.
