Samuel McKnight Jr., 62, of Cheraw, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12 from Bethel Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Born in Georgetown, Mr. McKnight was a son of the late Samuel McKnight Sr. and Anna Gibson McKnight. He was employed with the New York Transit Authority for 25 years and was a veteran of the United States Armed Forces. After moving to Cheraw in 1993, Mr. McKnight joined Bethel Baptist Church. He was employed with CHESCO of Cheraw.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Marie Dewitt Livingston McKnight; children, Johnny Ro. Dewitt, Janice Lucille Dewitt, Samuel (Monica) McKnight III and Nathasha McKnight all of Cheraw, Carrol Elaine (Larry) Peoples and Myra Jean Livingston of New York; 12 grandchildren; sisters, Hazel (Henry) Broadie, Hiawatha (Carl) Rosseau of Society Hill, Sadie (Walter) Hinson of Cheraw, Betty Jean Dewitt of New York; and a brother-in-law, Samuel Dewitt III of Oxnard, Calif.; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Arrangements were entrusted to Grooms Funeral Home & Memorial Chapel.
