A special election to replace Chesterfield County School Board member Council Porter will be held Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, a week after the general election this fall. Porter, a retired coach and educator, had represented District 9 as a member of the school board for 16 years. He died Aug. 17, at the age of 82.
Special election forms, for any Chesterfield County resident of District 9 who wishes to seek election to this position, are available at the Chesterfield County Voter’s Registration Office at 416 West Boulevard in Chesterfield. That’s directly across from the Chesterfield County School District Office. Filing will begin at noon Friday, Sept. 7, and close at noon, Monday, Sept. 17, at the Voter’s Registration Office.
The elected board member will serve the remainder of Porter’s term, until June 2014. School board members are traditionally elected to 4-year terms.
A former Chesterfield County superintendent, Ken Dinkins, spoke highly of Porter. “Coach Porter was a dedicated, cooperative and supportive friend of education,” said Dinkins.
David A. Sherbine, former Chesterfield County educator, said Porter should be remembered as “a man who strongly supported what is best for children.”
