CHERAW – The Cheraw Town Council meeting, Council passed the second reading of an ordinance Tuesday to allow the donation of property at 225 Legrande Street to Chesterfield County Habitat for Humanity.
According to council, back in August 2008, the Town of Cheraw accepted the donation of a parcel of land on Legrande Street from MTV Properties, LLC. The town had acquired the property through a Chesterfield County delinquent tax sale.
In 2008, a chapter of the Habitat for Humanity organization, which was established in Chesterfield County, was seeking locations throughout the county that they thought would be appropriate for new building sites. The ordinance states that this particular property appears to meet most of the requirements of the organization and once developed, would be placed back on the tax rolls.
This in turn would provide revenue for the Town of Cheraw.
Habitat for Humanity’s main purpose is to build quality housing for citizens in Chesterfield County.
