CHERAW - Billy Wallace, Jr. who ran for a seat in the Nov. 3 Cheraw Town Council race against current council member, Robert L. Benton in District two, will soon fill Benton’s seat come January 2010.

Wallace is the son of William P. Wallace, Sr. and the late Martha Laney Wallace and the grandson of the late Senator Paul A. Wallace.

After graduating from Wallace High School, Wallace earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in history at Garden Webb College. He also was a former employee of the S.C. DEHEC Office for 30 years until his retirement in 2003. Wallace and his wife Carolyn have resided in Cheraw for the past 18 years.

“It is going to be an honor to serve the people of Cheraw. I will exercise every effort possible to represent District two to my best ability,” said Wallace.

Wallace also served as the youngest political county chairman in the state of South Carolina when he was 26 years old. He was also the political campaign chairman for the late Senator Jack Lindsay.

“I want to work with the council members to help improve Cheraw. I hope to also work on budget improvement and there are other areas that need addressed. Hopefully, those areas will become more clear when I actually take office in January,” said Wallace.

Wallace will also be officially sworn in office during the scheduled Jan. 12, 2010 meeting to be held at Town Hall.
