Ten young men will compete Saturday evening in a Womanless Beauty Pageant, sponsored by the Cheraw High School Relay for Life Team, in an effort to raise money for victims of cancer. The pageant will be held at the Theatre on the Green, just off Market Street downtown, Saturday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $5 and are available in advance at Cheraw High School, or may be purchased at the door. The money raised will be donated to the Chesterfield County Chapter of the American Cancer Association, Inc.

According to Norma Grant, the faculty representative for Relay for Life, the men will compete in three separate categories: sportswear, talent, and evening gown.

“The contestants will also go out into the crowd to collect money in their pocketbooks,” said Grant. The contestant collecting the most money from the crowd will win the title “Miss Money Bags.”

After the pageant, there will be goody bags with candy and homemade cookies available for purchase.

“We’ve been doing this pageant since 2009,” said Grant, and they’re always a lot of fun. This year, “I may even be able to get the winner to sign autographs,” she said.

Last year’s winner was Tyler McElveen, or as he’s known on stage, Tyquisha McLovin.
