Rock Hill, SC – Jane Beasley Moore, 80, died at her home on January 9, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was born May 8, 1932 in Cheraw, SC. Jane was the daughter of Henry and Alice Beasley. She was married for 53 years to the late David LaFar Moore, Sr., and together they had five children who survive her: David L. Moore, Jr., (Leslie) from Greenville; Henry B. Moore (Barbara) from Rock Hill; Margaret Sellers (Jack) from Columbia; Adele Moore (Tom) from Peachtree City, GA; and Jane Hearn (John) from Columbia. She is also survived by her sixteen grandchildren.
Jane lived her life with gusto! Among her greatest loves was the 30 years of teaching Sunday School to high school and adult students and ringing handbells in the Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church (OAPC) handbell choir. Jane was an officer of both Bethesda Presbyterian and Oakland Avenue Presbyterian churches, and worked on the design and planting of OAPC’s Memorial Garden and Bethesda’s sanctuary garden. She served on the boards of the Red Cross and the Girls’ Attention Home, and Converse College Alumnae. Jane was a master gardener and a fine writer. Her Rock Hill Herald column, “A Sense of Humus,” was a reader favorite. She loved the West Country, adopting Lytes Cary manor as her English home away from home. She served as the first woman president of the Rock Hill YMCA and she was a director on the J. L. Anderson Co. Board of Directors. Most of all, she was a loving, wise, and witty mother, wife, sister, and friend.
Jane’s memorial service will be held at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church at 3:00 PM on Friday, January 11, 2013. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church handbell choir or to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, www.pdf.org.
