Northeastern Technical College employees contributed $3,356 to the United Way of Chesterfield County, which is more than triple the amount the college raised when it joined the United Way campaign eight years ago.
“This is a true testimony to how a little can go a long way,” said Margaret Plettinger Mitchell, United Way of Chesterfield County director. “We ask people to give what they can. Whether it is $1 or $10, your contribution is making an unbelievable difference in the lives of your neighbors.”
All the money raised by the United Way of Chesterfield County stays in Chesterfield County assisting organizations such as Hospice of Chesterfield County, volunteer first responders, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Mercy in Me Free Medical Clinic and many more nonprofit agencies. The United Way’s mission is to enhance the economic and social well being of the community through the collection and allocation of funds and resources based on need.
NETC joined the United Way campaign in 2005, raising $791 for the organization. Since then, the amount contributed by college employees has steadily increased each year.
“We increased our employee incentives to boost participation in the United Way campaign, and we are excited to see the growing response from college employees to contribute to the United Way,” said Ron Bartley, college president. “We got the idea of offering employee incentives from other Chesterfield County employers who have had very successful campaigns. I encourage other employers to adopt employee incentives because they work.”
“Making a donation is easy,” said Cathy Pelfrey, who has spearheaded the campaign for NETC. “We ask our college employees to pledge a certain amount to the United Way, and those dollars are deducted from employee paychecks. It is a great way to help others and give back to the community.”
All donations are tax deductible.
“If you give $1 a week, you could provide two days of operating the 24-hour toll free crisis line for sexual assault or domestic violence victims,” Mitchell said. “If you give $10 a week, you could provide annual required safety training for two volunteer firemen.”
