The preliminary autopsy report on the cause of death for Jeffery Doyle Allen, whose body was found on the bank of the spillway at Cheraw State Park last week, has been “ruled accidental,” said Chesterfield County Coroner Kip Kiser. According to Kiser, a final report on the case will not be filed until autopsy toxicology reports are completed.
Until those results are known, the case will remain under investigation with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), said Kiser. “We are still waiting for complete results from the autopsy,” he said.
Allen’s body was spotted in the early morning Tuesday, July 31, by a park guest on a daily walk. According to the incident report from the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office, he was found “lying face down approximately three feet from the water.” He was 48 years old.
Kiser said there was no way to predict how soon the final autopsy results will be known.
A memorial service was held for Allen on Friday, Aug. 3, at First United Methodist Church in Cheraw.
He was a United States Army veteran and member of First United Methodist Church. Memorials are requested to go to Men’s Bible Class of First United Methodist Church, 117 Third St., Cheraw, SC 29520.
