For many native Cheravians, such as Bill and Kimball Baker, now of Murrell's Inlet, and Thomas Burr, the evening offered opportunities to laugh at stories from the past and catch up on new ones.

The food was great, the music was “fantastic,” and the weather was perfect for the annual Taste of Cheraw last Thursday evening, April 25.

Sponsored each year, since 1994, by the Greater Cheraw Chamber of Commerce, and hosted this year by the Watson family at 143 McIver Street, the event was a huge success, said Phil Powell, executive director for the Chamber.

Each year this evening is “greatly anticipated by the community at large,” said Powell. “It is an opportunity to highlight all that is the ‘best of Cheraw,’ our food, our people and our historic town.”

Luring both the young and the young at heart to the dance floor were the Fantastic Shakers, who are perhaps best known for their music from the 1970s.

Guests enjoyed many of the annual standards such as Bananas Foster, oyster shooters and the wild game table. The newest edition to the fun this year was a photo booth, sponsored by Mahala Reese, offering free, unlimited photos. Guests were welcome to have their picture taken with their date, or their group of friends, throughout the evening.
