People lined up as early as 4 a.m. outside Wal-Mart in Cheraw Friday, Nov. 29, "the biggest shopping day of the year," as the day after Thanksgiving is known. This year was no exception. People were lined up from the entrance of the store to the entrance of the parking lot on S.C. Highway 9 by the time the doors opened at 6 a.m. The first sale was completed before everyone in line had made his or her way into the store. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. reported record one-day sales of $1.43 billion for the day after Thanksgiving. This was published in The Cheraw Chronicle Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002.
