Holden Davis ties a yellow ribbon to a post on Main Street in Chesterfield in honor of the local National Guardsmen who have been called up to service. Members of the National Guard Units in Cheraw and Jefferson were notified in December they would be deployed to Iraq in the spring. Since then, the Chesterfield County Family Assistance Group has been putting up yellow ribbons through out the towns of Chesterfield and Cheraw and has asked others to display ribbons at their homes and businesses. This was published Jan. 1, 2004, in the Cheraw Chronicle.

The Cheraw State Fish Hatchery unloads some 200,000 bluegill bream into the Great Pee Dee River at Laney Landing, Riverside Park, Cheraw. Another 25,000 were unloaded at the Cheraw State Park lake. The fingerlings will grow to a catchable size by late summer. They can grow to a half pound or three quarter pound size. These fish will range some five to seven miles in both directions fromt he point of unloading. This was published Feb. 6, 1986 in the Cheraw Chronicle.
