Another deputy arrested

Another member of the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office was arrested July 3, bringing the total number of arrests within the department since March of 2013 up to four.Agents with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division arrested Dana Orrin Wallace, 48, last week on one count of filing a false police report. The offense is a misdemeanor which carries a fine up to $500, 30 days in jail or both.Chesterfield County’s former sheriff of 10 years, Sanford “Sam” Parker, was sentenced in April to serve a two-year prison term after he was convicted of embezzlement, misconduct in office and furnishing contraband to an inmate.

 

How much will taxes go up?

The tax increase of 8 mills approved by members of Chesterfield County Council last month will generate roughly $800,000 in new revenue for the county budget that would otherwise fall short of operating expenses next year. The increase will mean an extra $30 from the taxpayer’s pocket on a property valued at $100,000.The county’s millage rate stood at 308.82 for 2013. The increase will take it to 316.82. Town offers building grants

The town of Cheraw will again offer businesses located within town limits a matching grant to assist in the enhancement of their building’s exterior. During 2013-14, the town assisted 12 business owners and spent a total of $9,940.61.Grant funds from the façade grant program may be used for exterior signs, awnings, painting and doors.
