The Cheraw Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity will be hosting their Annual Civic and Centennial Anniversary program to celebrate the organizations 100th year of service.

The event will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 13 at Grandview Presbyterian Church in Chesterfield, SC. The program is free and will last approximately 90 minutes.

The keynote speaker for the event will be State Representative Terry Alexander, District 59- Florence and Marion Counties. Rep. Alexander serves on the House Medical, Military, Public and Municipal Affairs Committees.

He is also the pastor of Wayside Chapel Baptist Church in Florence, SC.

The Cheraw Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi was founded on March 21, 1947 by ten local men working in Chesterfield and Marlboro Counties.

The Chapter has the unique distinction of being the third oldest Kappa chapter in South Carolina following the Charleston Alumni Chapter, chartered March 24, 1945, and the Columbia Alumni Chapter, chartered Feb. 2, 1947.

Today, the Chapter continues to thrive with an average membership of 15 fraternity brothers.

The Cheraw Alumni Chapter’s core mission continues to be service to the citizens of Chesterfield and Marlboro County.

A series of annual events ensure this goal is met. The Cheraw Alumni Chapter will host several community service projects this year.

One of the local chapters biggest programs, The Miss Kappa Teen Pageant, is scheduled for the spring.

To date the fraternity has raised over $200,000 in scholarship funds for area men and women since the pageant began in 1977.

The international organization of Kappa Alpha Psi which was founded in 1911 at the University of Indiana is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
