“We had some enthusiastic hunters out there looking for the Golden Christmas Tree and the Golden Football. It was so much fun that we wanted to do it again with the Golden Egg hunt,” said General Manager, Shannon Justice. “In the last contest we held in December, the tree was found early which left a few disappointed. This time we've added a second chance drawing of $50, in case the egg is found early.”
The Golden Egg is hidden outdoors on property open to the public and could be located anywhere in the county. It will not be hidden in an area that is dangerous to those looking, like a divided highway median or private property.
“When talking about public property, we mean any school, church, business or government location in the county,” Justice explained. “It will not be hidden where you could put yourself in danger while trying to get to it, nor will it be behind a fence or on property marked private or no trespassing.”
Those on the hunt will get one new clue each week in the newspaper or get clues a day earlier, by visiting one of the business sponsors. Each of the participating businesses will get that week's clue Wednesday morning. Sponsors for the Golden Egg Hunt are National Finance Company and Badcock Furniture in Cheraw, and Subway and Crawford Furniture and Mattress Outlet in Chesterfield.
Here are the official contest rules:
*The egg is located on property open to the public.
*The person finding the egg must bring it to the Cheraw Chronicle office during regular business hours. In addition to bringing the egg, you must bring the official authorization form (inside or attached to the egg) to prove authenticity.
*Claiming prizes authorizes the newspaper to use your name and picture in the newspaper.
*One clue will be announced in the paper each of the days the ad runs (six clues).
*Clues will be posted at participating stores the day before they are published in the newspaper.

*Clues are available only by purchasing the paper or stopping by participating stores.
*If someone finds the egg before the 5th clue has published -we'll accept entries from an entry blank published on each additional run date, until the six ads have run. This will be a second chance drawing for $50.
*A new clue will be published on the following days: March 17, 24, 31 and April 7, 14, 21.
The Golden Egg will come with a certificate of authenticity. In this case, the certificate will be attached to or inside of the egg. To claim prize the, bring both the egg and the certificate must be brought to The Cheraw Chronicle office located at 114 Front St., between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Once the tree is found, the winner will have his or her photo taken for use in the following week’s newspaper.
