CHERAW - Dowell “Red” Coker, 79, died April 7, 2011.
Born in Clarendon County, Red was a son of the late Ira T. and Vivian Dubose Coker. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Cheraw, for more than 46 years and a member of the Berean Sunday School Class. He was a Mason and a Shriner. Mr. Coker was a member of the “Wisdom Table” at the Cheraw Bojangles.
Red is survived by his wife Sandra Vause Coker, daughters, Dawn (Charles) Coker Rayfield, Penny (Robert) Coker Angle, grandchildren Sarra (Jeffery) Maier Furr, Alexandra (fiancée, Jeffrey Charles Tell) Coker Maier, Duward Coker Angle, Penelope Jean Angle, great grandchild, George Coker Furr, many special nephews and nieces, right-hand man, John Chapman, Jr. all of Cheraw; step-grandchildren, Heath (Tabitha) Rayfield, Justin Rayfield all of Chesterfield, Blair (Dorthy) Angle of Restin, VA, Lee Angle of Rockingham, N.C., also, his faithful animal companion, Chester.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above, brothers, Dargan, Alvin, Joe and Kenneth Coker.
Funeral services were held April 10 at First Baptist Church, Family Life Center, Cheraw. Burial with miliary honors followed in the Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation was held April 9.
