COLUMBIA, SC - Kappa Delta alumnae and collegiate sisters from around South Carolina have been invited to join The Children’s Trust of South Carolina (CTSC) in welcoming one of their own, Collins Tuohy on Friday, September 16th 2011 at the Columbia Marriott. Miss Tuohy will be joining the 2011 Children’s Trust of South Carolina Prevention Conference as their Keynote Speaker for the luncheon event that day. Miss Tuohy was featured in the movie The Blind Side as the sister of now-famous football player Michael Oher. Her story of compassion and inspiration will be presented to attendees of the conference in addition to all Kappa Delta sisters who register for the luncheon in advance. Seating will be limited for this event.
Earlier this year, the Palmetto Alumnae Chapter located in Florence, SC applied for and was successfully awarded a $2,500 KiDs Grant through Kappa Delta National Foundation in an effort to help CTSC generate funds to assist with costs associated with the conference. “Due to our longstanding partnership at the collegiate level with local Prevent Child Abuse affiliates across the state, we believed that there was something more we could do as alumnae to continue to help these professionals.” stated Jo Ellen Schneider, a state officer and writer of the grant. “We hope the attendees of the conference will benefit from the training and support that CTSC will provide.” The KiDs grants are designed to allow Kappa Delta alumnae and alumnae chapters an opportunity to provide significant financial support to programs that have a direct positive effect on families and children. Through partnerships with local non-profit agencies, Kappa Delta alumnae and alumnae chapters can work to improve the quality of life for KiDs, the heart of the community.
In addition to the luncheon, the Kappa Delta sisterhood will have additional opportunities scheduled including a visit to the statehouse that morning, a reception on campus at USC’s Beta Zeta Chapter House as well as group seating USC’s football game the following day.
