Teams needed for S.C. Jazz Festival Chalk Competition
The Cheraw Arts Commission is looking for teams to participate in a Sidewalk Chalk Competition on Saturday, Oct. 15. Returning to this year’s festival will be “Madonnari-Southern Style.”
This sidewalk chalk competition is based on the Italian art form called “Madonnari” or Italian Street Painting. Teams of at least four people can create masterpieces on the sidewalk at the Theatre on the Green. Teams can consist of families, friends, organizations, schools, churches, and businesses. Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams.
Free workshops will be offered prior to the S.C. Jazz Festival. Artist Robin Bersinger will provide instruction using a grid technique, handouts, and tips on sidewalk chalk art. The Cheraw Arts Commission is supported by the United Way of Chesterfield County and the S.C. Arts Commission which receives funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
